Chris Gibson, is one fat, drunk, angry bastard.

He's tried every diet Atkins, South Beach, Pritikin... Problem is he still can't get his pants on in the morning. And he got none of the genes of his movie star brother Mel. In his early 40s with a job he hates and a lifestyle that is killing him, Chris is having more than a mid-life crisis. He's having a life and death crisis...

Memoirs of a Fat Bastard is a bittersweet account of how a middle-aged man on the road to destruction turned his life and health around on his own terms. It's a telling and frequently hilarious story of the ways in which some men can lose their way, and the way back to finding meaning and happiness amid the competing pressures of being provider, family man, and all-round good Aussie bloke.

Memoirs of a Fat Bastard How I lost my gut and gained a life eBook Chris Gibson

I bought this book when I saw the book cover at an airport bookstore. Kindled it. this book is really fun, a fast read and a really honest portrayal of a man who turned a page battling the battle most of us battle. I never bother writing reviews, but I really feel this book deserves a plug. Worth buying and reading. Hope the USA gets it in hardback soon so I can gift it at christmas.

Memoirs of a Fat Bastard How I lost my gut and gained a life eBook Chris Gibson Reviews

i love this book its very funny at times i laughed out loud many times, its also heart rendering going through Chris' lifelong struggles which helped me be more thankful for my own simple life

highly recommend it as great read
People who love biographies and autobiographies will love this book. It has a very natural flow and doesn't get bogged down in detail as biographies are often prone to doing. Chris Gibson is a regular Australian guy - not some dilettante elitist - so the reader is spared the (usually) inevitable, self-glorifying gibberish that make many a life story painful to explore.

As one of the other reviewers mentioned, this is a fast read - I polished it off in a single sitting today. This is due largely to the writer's infectious personality, and the relaxed way in which he examines what for him were some pretty turbulent, difficult episodes in his - or any man's, for that matter - life.

If you want to read a book about a genuinely likeable guy who has gone through things that the great majority of men do (but with perhaps a greater degree of panache) buy this book. You won't regret having done so.
Firstly, for someone who did not wish to be in the shadow of his brother he sure did mention Mel Gibson many a time. I didn't buy this book for Mel Gibson. In fact I had no idea he was related to the author and indeed believe that this book would have been more authentic if his brother had either been mentioned once in the "growing up" family section, or not at all. It seems that although the author - Chris Gibson - claims he has no issues with brother Mel, I lost count of the number of times he mentioned him, and I didn't buy a book to read about Mel Gibson.
Now my real issue with this book is the tiny amount of space dedicated to this grand new life he claims to have obtained.
After reading around 4/5th's of a book where the majority of the time Gibson refers to himself in numerous negative stances, eat, drinks, whines, and claims to change his ways while doing his best to destroy his own life and family, you do expect to read a lot more about this new life he has created. How it was achieved, how he left his job and what he's doing now, how his family is, if his long term wine & dine buddies ever did accept the new him or if he moved onward, and basically how he keeps the motivation going. What is this new life exactly? How did he gain it? All we know is that he attends a NLP seminar, and then another NLP seminar... and then the book ends.
It's a very "Aussie blokey" written book. I found that tiresome. I'm Australian and honestly have never met someone so "Aussie blokey" like that in my life. I don't know if he was writing that way as a put down because he had no self esteem, which I understand, or if he was writing like that to connect with other Australian blokes who may feel as he did. Either way, it wasn't well written, didn't motivate or inspire, and just seemed like a waste of reading time. I was rather disappointed as I adore memoirs.
Another great book presented with humour and empathy. Ideal for those who struggle woth weight issues. A must have now
